Appointments System

 Appointments

To request a GP appointment, please use our online consultation service and provide as much information as you can about your symptoms or concerns. This helps our duty doctor review your request and make sure you receive the most suitable type of appointment.

Depending on your needs, this could be on the same day or within the next 1 to 2 weeks. In some cases, you may be referred to another member of our team, such as a physiotherapist or a health and wellbeing coach.

If you can’t use our online service due to specific communication needs, please don’t worry—just speak to a member of our team, and we’ll complete the form on your behalf. A carer or family member can also do this for you if needed.

After the duty doctor has reviewed your request, one of our reception team members will be in touch to arrange the most appropriate appointment, as the doctor has advised. Please make sure we have the correct contact details so we can get in touch with you.

Training Practice

We are committed to shaping the future of healthcare! As a training practice, we support doctors in their journey to becoming GPs and Consultants. This occasionally involves video recording consultations or having both a trainee and trainer present. Rest assured, your permission will always be requested in these cases.

👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️ Additionally, we are proud to teach undergraduate medical, nursing, and physician associate students from Manchester University and UCLAN, contributing to the development of the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Home Visits

🏠 Home Visits: Prioritising Care for Those Who Truly Need It

We encourage all patients to visit the surgery, where we have the best equipment and facilities to provide high-quality care. However, we understand that some patients may be unable to attend due to specific medical conditions.

If you require a home visit, please contact our reception team before 09:00 a.m. on 01706 335353.

👉 Eligibility for Home Visits
Home visits are reserved for:

  • Terminally ill patients
  • Housebound patients: Please note, any patient who is able to leave home for any reason is not considered housebound.
  • Severely ill patients who cannot be mobilised.

Your GP will assess whether a home visit is medically necessary and decide on its urgency. They may call you to discuss your condition, determine if your concerns can be managed over the phone, or redirect you to another NHS service if appropriate. Please provide detailed information to assist in scheduling visits.

👩‍⚕️ Additional Home Support

A community nurse can visit your home if referred by your GP.
A health visitor will visit if you’ve recently had a baby or are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five.

Cancel an Appointment

You must inform the reception staff if you cannot attend your appointment. This will allow the appointment to be offered to another patient. If you fail to notify the Practice, you will receive a letter informing you that you have defaulted on your appointment. Persistent defaulters may be removed from the practice list.

You can also complete our appointment cancellation notification request form. This form can only be used if your appointment has been arranged more than 24 hours in advance (excluding weekends and public holidays). You can also text to cancel your appointment.

More GP Appointments for East Lancashire Residents

An innovative scheme known as extended GP access has been launched in East Lancashire to increase the number of GP appointments available to patients in the area.

The Enhanced Access Service has been launched in East Lancashire to increase the number of appointments to patients in the area. We have 7 Primary Care Networks covering 4 areas Burnley, Hyndburn, Ribblesdale, and Rossendale.

The Enhanced Access scheme means that patients can make an appointment via their registered practice to see a variety of Health Professionals such as GPs, ANPs, PNs, HCAs and Clinical Pharmacists which are delivered F2F and remotely Mondays to Fridays from 17:00 – 20:45, and 09:00 – 17:00 on a Saturday.

This service has been set up by East Lancashire Alliance on behalf of Primary Care Networks to improve services available to patients outside GP core hours. The Clinicians will be able to access patients full medical record (including their practice notes), request tests and investigations, as well as completing referrals for them into further services and care. Anything added to the patients record during the Enhanced Access Consultation will go straight back to their registered practice so they can be kept up to data with anything that may have changed or been updated on the record.

Site Locations:

Burnley

  • Burnley Group Practice, St Peters Health Centre

Hyndburn

  • Richmond Medical Practice, Acorn Health Centre
  • Great Harwood Medical Group, Great Harwood Medical Centre

Ribblesdale

  • Clitheroe Health Centre, Castle Medical Group/Pendleside Medical Practice

Rossendale

  • Ilex View Medical Practice, Rossendale Health Centre
  • Irwell Medical Practice, Bacup Health Centre

The GPs will be able to access the full medical record and history to enable a thorough assessment and course of treatment. It also means that the patients record will be updated which will provide continuity of care.
